"Ahh, I know you really want to talk to me, but I'm a pretty busy guy, you know. I guess you'll just have to leave a message so I can get back to you later, hm?"
[Sano is rather confused by this reply at first, so he sits at the bar and just stares at it for a while, as if that will make it make more sense. But it remains the same and he remains confused. Because he is sure that Shinpachi isn't asleep at all (since he's probably at the bar with him and even if he weren't, there's no way Shinpachi is asleep this early.
He also knows for sure that Shinpachi has disgustingly perfect blue eyes, okay, this is one of those heterosexual life partner test questions. Probably.
So that leaves another terrifying option.
And when Sano actually looks at the name of the person who sent said text, he starts to laugh, both in person and in text.]
[that's definitely a different way of looking at things. and definitely not in the way that souji himself subscribes to at all. it's weird, without a doubt, to hear someone sharing his name speaking hijikata so affectionately, so warm—it really sets the two of them apart right off the bat and proves well enough that there are plenty of differences that will eventually come to light.
his relationship with hijikata is brotherly without a doubt, but it's the sort of thing that he never admits verbally. souji prefers to instigate, to bicker, to get under hijikata's skin always, and maybe it's because he's jealous and bitter and possessive; maybe it's just because he feels like he always has something to prove. whatever it is specifically, the notion of expressing how important their relationship is just isn't something he can do so easily.]
If it ever came to that, I'd have to wonder if something possessed Hijikata-san. What a scary thought. [he plays along a bit though. he won't say it would make him sad, but acknowledging the fact that it would be weird as hell? he can do that much.]
Something wrong? It seems like something is disappointing you.
[of course, he knows full well that the text was not intended for him. even at his most drunk, this isn't behavior sano carries on with him—not that he knows off the bat who it's actually intended for, but is that important?
sano's still misdirecting all that flirting, so why not play along and be an ass about it?]
[Of course he's misdirecting. This is how he deals with problems he can't stab or punch. Just ~ignore them~. He's also not drunk enough to fall into Souji's traps! Probably.]
[He can tell that there is a big difference in how they view the situation, and more fundamentally in the relationship hinted at, and in a strange way he's relieved. That really makes no sense at all, because why should he really care at all how this Souji interacts with someone who isn't even here - and who he has no personal connection to even if he was?
But the truth is that everything Hijikata means to him exists at the very core of his being, and if it could really be that easily replicated with a couple of complete strangers... well, it would cheapen it somehow. So although there are similarities, it seems different enough to console Souji on that point, and that puts his mind a bit at ease. Maybe it's silly, but it's not like he's going to say it out loud.]
I'd probably think he was sick - though at least that would mean I'd get to fuss over him and not the other way around. [A long-suffering sigh and a bit of a pout, before he once more brightens up.] But if he really was possessed, I suppose I'd just ask Hajime-san what to do about it. Ask him to cleanse the strangely patient and sensible spirit from the body it had taken over.
Which isn't anything unusual, except that she chooses to take her stroll when the majority of the colony ought to be asleep. Even Ba'ul's presence is a drowsy constant in her mind, acknowledging but not actively participating.
... Which is fine. Judith's content to be alone with her thoughts-- or so she thinks, until she glimpses a figure (and a sword) up ahead. Curious, she moves towards it, silent, but not bothering to hide her presence. ]
[ Heisuke isn't too far behind, though he does bring his swords along (just in case!) and is still a little hopeful that maybe he can convince Souji to change his mind. Or at least not kill him for asking. It's a silly request, but he wants to at least try.
When he finally spots him, Heisuke is all smiles as he trots up alongside him, his usual enthusiasm unable to be dampened for long by disappointment... yet. Let him down easy, Souji. ]
[for souji, this is an ideal time to practice his own formations and stay sharp. he's well rested after sleeping through the morning and early afternoon hours, he's done his part of patrolling the high traffic areas before things quieted down, and now there's little else to do.
sure, he can keep patrolling, but it gets a little dull when there is a (seemingly efficient) police force and other bots around to keep things in check. so here he is, practicing as he would have back in kyoto. or at least, he's doing that until he can sense the presence of another person.
and souji's senses are sharp, so he's quick to turn in her direction, pinpointing where she is and pointing his sword exactly in her direction. he doesn't act further than that though, standing calmly in place. the fluorescent lights that hang overhead probably don't do much to flatter the curious expression on his face, but it's clear that he has an eyebrow arched curiously.]
It's not often people pass through here at this hour. [so who are you and what are you doing here, basically.]
[ Judith doesn't hesitate simply ("simply") because he has a blade pointed at her. Nor does she reach for her spear - yet- opting to merely raise an eyebrow in polite curiosity.
No, of course she's not even going to address the fact that he's holding her at swordpoint. ]
[well, it's not like souji is doing this to be some kind of disappointment for heisuke. he is looking out for his comrade here, but it's a lot easier to have this conversation without having to type—he really just doesn't like using the cerevice much if he doesn't have to.]
So Heisuke-kun wants to learn Tennen Rishin after all this time, is that it?
[it's a bit beyond quiet at this hour, when the city actually does seem to be sleep in a way. but it's all very curious and interesting—she clearly shows no fear or takes it as a thread how he holds his sword, which is more than can be said for many.
which is enough to earn his respect for the moment. he's sure she wouldn't be foolish enough to attack him recklessly, so he lowers his sword, a smirk settling on his lips. she's interesting already.]
[he wouldn't call it nightly, though he certainly does it nearly enough. granted, he's had a few months to get into a rhythm, and he observes plenty even when this isn't where he settles for the evening.]
There aren't all that many places to practice at this hour, after all. [and one of the most important things right now, as far as he's concerned? staying sharp.]
[meaning: he can practice formations well enough.]
It may not be the same as combat, but it does the job well enough. [after all, that was primarily how it worked in kyoto, too. the times they really got to wield their swords weren't as common as the time spent preparing, after all.]
