"Ahh, I know you really want to talk to me, but I'm a pretty busy guy, you know. I guess you'll just have to leave a message so I can get back to you later, hm?"
Is it really the sword style that's to blame here?
[souji's gaze shifts, focusing up at the sky as he asks that question. it's not meant to imply that heisuke or sannan are inadequate on the battlefield; souji doesn't think that in the least.
it's more that he knows that tennen rishin isn't some magical fix for the problem. despite being able to wield his sword, despite having mastered the sword style to attain menkyo at such a young age, it couldn't always save or protect him. he's fallen more than one time, and one of those times was recent enough to still weigh heavily on him.]
Maybe we're getting too soft here. Too much "luxury" making us as soft as the samurai we didn't want to be. [isn't that what kondou would compare it to? samurai who held rank, and even skill, but led cushy lives where they didn't ever have to fight. that's what it feels like sometimes.]
[ Sadly, whatever Souji's intended reasoning was, it's lost on him the moment he asks that question.
Heisuke knows it's probably not the sword style but himself that's to blame, because he's weak and smaller than everybody else. Weak ronin, he can handle with ease, but someone who might have a clue? Not so much. He gets thrown around too easily and the enemies he's faced here have been able to get the drop on him thanks to sheer number. No, it's not the style at all. ]
...I didn't ask to be smaller than everybody else. And it's not my fault I'm not as strong as everybody else, either.
[ Unfortunately, it also means he's not entirely understanding the rest of what Souji says. ]
